Om Puri & Kiran Bedi could face 15 days in Jail. 


Interesting. Though Kiran Bedi's speech was tasteless & tone repungant but I am aghast that there is exists a law in the country where one could be jailed for using such tone against MP's. Politicians use it against each other, against opponents & against others all the time. I would not like to quote names & instances here but clearly all of us are well aware of it.


However, the substance of Kiran Bedi's speech was not entirely off the mark. We do know that politicians are notoriously inconsistent with their views & commitments.


Are our political class merely wanting to extract some revenge for being brow-beaten by ordinary folks. They find an excuse in Om Puri's & Kiran Bedi's statement & perhaps a ridiculous law to do this. We never see such alacrity in punishing a Raja or a Kalmadi or so many others in the political class. What are we to make out of such  haste in this case?

While inaugurating the " National Centre for Marine Biodiversity in Jamnagar"  Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said -

"We cannot build a world class research centre in a Governmental set up. The governmental set up can never attract young people. Never. Let us understand our experience in th:e last 60 years. Government research institutions can never attract young talent".

Furthemore, he said

"So I have been to Jamnagar and we are in a PPP mode. We are having a joint venture with Reliance to set up a world class national centre for marine biodiversity"

and then added

"There is hardly any worthwhile research from our IITs. The faculty in the IIT is not world class. It is the students in IITs who are world class. So the IITs and IIMs are excellent because of the quality of students not because of quality of research or faculty,"
